API 5l Grade X42 Pipe has manganese, sulfur and phosphorus as common alloyants. The pipe is made up of an ultra-low carbon steel. It is used in very high pressure gas lines. The dimensions of the pipes range from ½ inches to 48 inches in outer diameter. There are two different product specification levels as PSL1 and PSL2.

The L290/X42 (Psl1) is the most common where the PSL2 has slightly higher mechanical properties and is less common in applications. There are various schedules to the pipes ranging from sch5 through XXS and all schedules. The API 5l X42 Pipe comes in plain, beveled, screwed and threaded ends. These are useful in different applications. The API 5l X42 Psl2 can be seamless, welded, fabricated, CDW and ERW. The lengths of the pipes range from single random, double random to required lengths up to 12m.

The application of the API 5l X42 Psl1 Pipe is used in petrochemical, sugar, boiler, pressure vessel and in power generation industries.
