L390 Pipe and API 5L X56m PSL2/PSL1 material supplier in India
API 5L X56 pipe is used in oil and gas transmission pipe lines. The API 5L pipes are graded according to their minimum yield strength. The number after the X specifies the yield strength in ksi. The API 5L X56 pipe therefore has 56ksi minimum yield strength. The applications are mostly in the oil and gas, petroleum, petrochemical and other fluid transmission systems. There are two product specification levels to these pipes and Multi Metals (India) manufactures both PSL1 and PSL2 pipes.
There are also other sub-gradings of the pipes. These pipes are seamless. The API 5l X56m comes in 3/8 to 30 inches in nominal bore size with wall thickness up to 250mm. The schedules range from sch20 to XXS depending on the wall thickness and the diameter of the pipes. The API 5l X56 Psl2 is less commonly used than the PSL1. The composition includes carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur with niobium, vanadium and titanium in trace amounts.
The low carbon content of the pipes makes them more ductile and welding does not require any special procedures. However, the API 5l X56m Psl2 can be welded with other material grade pipes in a piping system where preheating and the use of filler materials might be applied. The API 5l Grade X 56 can be tempered, quenched, normalized or the methods combined as part of the heat treatment to harden them up.
