The standard duplex is the most used and the lean duplex is used in unique applications. It is also costlier than most other metallic pipes. There are different pressure classes and schedules. The material composition has very high chromium content ranging from 19% to 28% in different grades and molybdenum up to 5% with less nickel content in comparison to the austenitic stainless steel grades. The duplex steel pipe is strong. It is almost twice as strong as the austenitic and ferritic steel grades.
They have high toughness with ductility. The materials that are tough would lack ductility. But duplex has toughness and ductility so that it could be formed and at the same time wear and tear resistant. The duplex ss pipe has excellent corrosion resistance and heat resistance properties. Some grades can operate under concentrated acids and some can operate under cryogenic temperatures to furnace temperatures. The different specifications such as the ASME SA790 Duplex Pipe cover pipes of different mechanical and physical properties for easy application in different industries. They are used in chemical, medical, marine, oil and gas, petroleum, food production, pollution control and in pulp and paper industries.
